I am trying to get back to eating more healthy. So with the limited time I have, planning ahead is key. So I went to Pintrest and found a bunch of these salad in a mason jar and decided to give it a try. I made a Summer Strawberry & Almond salad, one of my favorites.
It’s super easy, and I have plenty of jars on hand. The key to the mason jar salad is to layer, by placing the salad dressing on the bottom and putting the salad greens on the top you can create a barrier which prevents the entire salad from becoming soggy. Genius! First layer is your salad dressing, then your hard veggies, like cucumbers, peppers & onions. Then add the rest of your veggies, try and pack them as tightly as possible – the less air between layers the better sealed the salad will be. Then put your layer of protein, meat or beans of your choice. Your final layer should be your salad greens and any topping, like nuts.
So what is great about a mason jar salad? The fact that you can make the salads ahead of time is incredible and my fresh veggies no longer languish in my fridge. Mason jar salads stay fresh for about 4-5 days in your fridge. So in the long run this will save me money and not waste as much food. These jars are easy grab and go meal.
